l am the "bestiaryist” (bestiarist). In ancient times a bestiary was a book full of brightly colored animal paintings. A bestiarist was the one who made a bestiary. The animal paintings were accompanied by descriptive text about the behaviors and habits of the various species depicted in the animal paintings.
Considering Animals is my modern bestiary. I have revolutionized the bestiary. My bestiary is about true, individual animals. Instead of a focus on the species level, I focus on the personality of the individual animal.
I chronicle the spirit, depth, and personality of individual animals, to share their stories and uniqueness with others. I believe a better understanding of the cognitive, emotional, and personality depth of non-human, individual animals leads people to more responsible stewardship of the earth and its animals.
For me, it all starts with individual animals that I might know, see, read or hear about. Then I get to thinking about them and out comes an essay or musing and/or a new animal painting.
Bright colors and unique animal personalities bring me joy. Considering Animals is my way of sharing this joy with you. Please enjoy my animal paintings and musings.
